Reuben Diamond is a visual and sound artist working between Tucson, AZ, and Brooklyn, NY, moving across painting, sculpture, fabrication, and composition with a shared attention to material process. His grounding includes a master's in Ecological Building and Biocities from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia and an apprenticeship at Nacho Carbonell's studio in the Netherlands, both shaping a practice where form follows material logic rather than concept.His latest series, Essence, carries that sensibility into the Sonoran desert. Each painting begins on canyon trails outside Tucson, gathering sand and studying how sun and erosion shape rock over time, then builds acrylic, masonry paint, pumice, desert sand, and polymer emulsion on wood panel into surfaces that weather, crack, and scar much as the land does. Each panel sits inside a sandblasted steel frame Diamond fabricates by hand, an enclosure built around ground that keeps resisting containment.
